Dhaka, August 8, 2025 (THETECHMUSK=TTM)— A mental health awareness workshop for journalists, titled “Living with Reality”, was held today at the Bissho Shahitto Kendro in Dhaka. The event was jointly organised by Bangladeshi Journalists in International Media (BJIM) and Mindshaper.
The workshop focused on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the psychological challenges faced by journalists in the wake of the recent Milestone School plane crash. Clinical and counseling psychologist Rukonuzzaman Rupom from Mindshaper led an in-depth session on coping with trauma, avoiding the internalisation of psychological stress, and adopting effective healing strategies.
With 20 journalists in attendance, the four-hour programme featured practical exercises on emotional regulation, achieving work-life balance, and recognising psychological responses. A Q&A session allowed participants to engage directly with experts, while open discussions encouraged the sharing of personal experiences related to mental health and trauma.

BJIM convenor Sam Jahan said,
“Mental health awareness is still a relatively new concept in Bangladesh. Given the demands of their work, journalists often have little time to address these issues. This initiative aims to inform, raise awareness, and equip them with tools to care for their own well-being.”
Mindshaper spokesperson Sazzad Hossain added,
“Journalists are the mirror of society. When they prioritise their mental health, they become powerful advocates for spreading awareness throughout the community. Mindshaper is proud to support such an initiative.”
The event concluded with certificate presentations to all participating journalists, jointly awarded by BJIM and Mindshaper.
